从古至今、在摇滚乐史上，我们知道总有许多伟大的乐团，
矗立在万神殿上、接受千万的的乐迷顶礼膜拜。摇滚乐中，确实是不乏许多可供
凭吊的英雄事迹、与一张张值得永藏的经典杰作。然而，若是提到Mercury Rev
奇特的组团历程、与那宛如一长途冒险的种种诡异传奇事迹后；那么放眼乐坛
就似乎没有太多乐团可以相比拟了。特别是当他们在1998年完成了Deserter‘s
Songs这一完美的现代经典后；所有团员间的冲突混乱与爱恨悲喜都在专辑里得
到最后的救赎与完结。因为Deserter‘s Songs所标示的不仅是他们历年来最卓
越的成就、同时也竖立了新迷幻乐派（Neo-psychedelia）的最新里程碑。
Mercury Rev从80年代末期一路发展至今，与The Flaming Lips常
有令人混淆之处：同样历经过大幅度的团员人事变动(仅余核心成员始终维持
着乐团招牌)与风格转化，前者的主唱兼吉他手Jonathan Donahue一度是
The Flaming Lips的团员未久他便离开专注于自己的乐团；而其团中的
贝斯手兼制作大将Davd Fridmann后来也另立门户，反过来为两者制作专辑，
并以Mercury Rev最具商业突破性的钜作「Deserter’s Songs」奠基
他成为当代摇滚新美学指针人物之一，此后广接Mogwai、Sparklehorse、
Luna等摇滚乐团与Gemma Hayes、Dot Allison、Ed Harcourt等新生代
创作歌手的制作重任，继续发挥其影响力。Jonathan Donahue 也因
Chemical Brothers等组合的邀约跨足电音领域。忧伤同时大气的路线
就此被这伙人登记注册使得后进者如Mew一出道便被称为丹麦版Mercury Rev。
1989年来自纽约水牛城的Mercury Rev，第一张录音就是一部为乐
队成员拍摄的实验电影做的原声。Mercury Rev这个名字的来源说法多样
有的说来自特兰夕法尼亚的一个芭蕾舞演员，有的说是一个密封的安培计
还有一辆马力强劲的汽车等等，千奇百怪。Mercury Rev经过各方成员
离合之后重组，在1991年终于发行了的第一张专辑《Yerself Is Steam》
获得了各界赞许。1993年发行的《Boces》再次继承了乐队充满噪音底子的
背景中更显出其主音Jonathan Donahue洁净透彻的音乐风格。这张唱片
第二年迅速登上了全英销量排行榜前50的位置，但由于音乐上的分歧
David Baker还是离开了乐队。2001年他们发行了《All Is Dream》
曲风和创作都更趋成熟和大气，添加的歌特式氛围和弦乐铺成了一个
巨大的舞台，Jonathan Donahue入一束柔和的光亮，慢慢浮出水面。
Mercury Rev are an American band from Buffalo, New York. The band's leader, David Baker, formed the band in the 1980s with his friends, including one-time Flaming Lips member Jonathan Donahue.
With their debut, Yerself Is Steam, the band gained an underground following, particularly in the UK. 1993's Boces was critically acclaimed for its alternative sound, but was the last to feature Baker, who departed shortly afterwards. The band's next album, See You on the Other Side, begins a shift away from the Baker-inspired extremes of sonic experimentalism towards the elaborately-orchestrated classic rock blueprint of their later work.
The reinvention continued on their 1998 album Deserter's Songs, a mix of dream pop, noise, and psychedelia. This album was very popular but it divides the band's fans: some say that this is the band's best album, others disagree. The next album All Is Dream (2001) followed suit in terms of musical style, and featured Jack Nitzsche on the production team (best known for helping Phil Spector engineer the Wall Of Sound production method).
In 2005 Mercury Rev released The Secret Migration, a mix of esoteric love songs

Mercurv Rev的融合了噪音、流行、摇滚的元素让我在数个无所事事的下午不由自主的把它挑出来，尽管意念可以迅速在效果器后面沉浮迷荡，却还是无法给人一个想要的答案。
Hole有着古典剧开幕一样奢靡的前奏，噪音和弦乐在音乐声中描绘了一个诡异的场面，扭曲的电吉他在人声后面如影随形，和钢琴、鼓一起支撑整首曲子，对立之间互相渗透，用人声沟通的旋律悄然落幕。 opus 40的名字给人一种错觉，混在其中的弦乐远离了那些惯常的摇滚元素， hudson line的jazz风格的前奏和主唱收敛起来的充满爆发性力量的嗓音，光滑的音色浸润在SAX的随性中。 The funny bird中将噪音旋律后营造出的环境在试图扭曲既有的和谐，电气化的主唱的声音像挣扎在水中一般。无助的音效和高昂的激情毫不留情的碰撞。 pick up if you\'re there幽怨的旋律 neo-folk在这首歌里面或许是丰富的多的旋律以及音乐中迷雾一样的云层笼罩了人的思绪，那段电吉他效果在阴森恐怖的城堡中比女声显的正义的多。 Goddes on a hiway丰富的旋律和抚慰人心的音色质地浸渍在几乎是天堂般的柔光里，带有不同于传统摇滚色彩的交响乐般闪烁着异彩的威严，指亮了那些崎岖的人生之路。
